Apart from my Mum and possibly Auntie Bec, you probably have no idea what I'm talking about. So I'll explain.
Clarence High Schoool has four bands-
- The Training Band - Taken by Mr Simon Read - this is for grade sevens who are learnign a new instrument. Some of them are learning their first instrument and some are learning a second one. I was in this band last year learning the Trombone.
- The Junior Concert Band - also taken by Simon - this band is made up of grade sevens and eights who can play their instruments. We reherse for an hour afterschool every Wednesday. we play older music, normally more classical stuff. We are going to perfome at Howrah Primary on wednesday. We also enter both the Hobart and Clarence estedfords. I play flute in this band and it is fairly easy.
- The Junior Stage Band - taken by Miss Baddcok - Again, this is a grade 7/8 band. We play more rock/swing music. The music is slightly harder than the concert band music, and we don't have as many different instruments. In this band we only have Saxophones, Trumpets, Trombones and Rythem (a kit, a bass guitar and an electric guitar). I play Trombone in this band. Because we don't have as larger variety of instruments we have less players. This band only consists of 2 alto saxs, 2 tenor saxs, 1 barri sax, 3 trumpets, 3 trombones, and the 3 members of the rythem section.
- The Senior Concert Band - Taken by Mr Mac - This is the band that i am so excited about joining. We play very similar music to the junior concert band, but its a lot harder. We have a piece at the moment written in 7:8 timing. This band is made up of grade nines and tens, along with the good grade eights. Mac likes to keep his band balanced, so he includes grade eights when he needs more of their instrument. Thats why I wasn't in before now. I play flute. That probably doesn't tell you much, but Mac hate flutes. The senior Band already has 4, then theirs me and Hayz in grade eight. We are good enough for senior band, Simon reckons we should be in senior band. And this week Mac agreed and we are now in SENIOR BAND. And I havn't even told you the best bit! Senior band goes on tour!! A week off school to tour northern Tassy with my band geek friends!!! Yay!!!
- The senior Stage Band - taken by Simon - like junior stage, but it is only for grade 9/10s.
So yeah. I am in Senior Band!!!! We practise for an hour afterschool on a Thurs and accasionally on a Sunday. Tour will be AWSOME!!!
P.S. the idea of me going on tour with a bunch of grade 9/10 s is scaring Mum to death.
Awesome! Well done carrot! Have a great tour, and tell your mum not to stress too much, Mr Mac won't let stuff get out of hand.
ReplyDeleteIt'll be fun. it's not till Oct though :(
ReplyDeleteAnd right now I'm busy worrying about playing a piece written in 7:8. Apparently you have to count 1-and-a 2-and 3-and, or 123 12 12. And I have no idea how I'll keep in time!
You'll get there with practise :)
ReplyDeleteWhat did you decide about the math competition?
I entered it.
ReplyDeleteYou didn't tell them all where you're staying while on tour - St Helens - ha ha. I don't need to worry about you while you're on tour, I've got plenty of relatives at St Helens who I can employ to keep an eye on ya - not to mention one at Ansons Bay .....
ReplyDeleteur may be going on tour? coooooooool!!!
ReplyDeletewell, congrats! (btw: r u playing the flute in the band - i hope ur braces dont stop u - im sure they wont!!)
